19 November 2009 – Merseyside and Wrexham formally recognised for "wiring up youth justice"

Congratulations to Merseyside Criminal Justice Board and Wrexham Youth Justice Service who were presented with glass trophies at the recent Annual Youth Justice Convention in Southport.

They were respectively given ‘Highly commended’ and ‘commended’ awards for demonstrating how they have improved practice through technology-enabled business change provided by the programme.

Merseyside Criminal Justice Board focused on the outcomes of PENY rather than the process, and this has meant a quick uptake that has given access to quality offender, offence and victim information in a single document. They have also freed up youth offending team police officer time for intervention functions ahead of the YJB’s Scaled Approach.

Wrexham Youth Justice Service sit within both Wrexham and Flintshire court areas which made it difficult to provide additional information in good time when requested by the Bench. The lack of information led to cases being adjourned.

As part of the remote working project, Wrexham now use a secure laptop with a 3G connection to remotely access their case management system and gain additional information without interrupting court proceedings.
